Please take a few moments to read athlete rules and etiquette to ensure everyone’s safety and to make this a fun, enjoyable event for all!

Safety First

For safety purposes, race participants will be separated into three waves. The first wave is for runners (no dogs), with competitive runners at the front of the pack and recreational runners to the rear. The second wave, starting a few minutes later, is for 5k runners with dogs, and 5k walkers with or without dogs. The final wave is for all 2k walkers, with or without dogs. Since this is a chip-timed event with a start mat, there is no disadvantage to starting in the second or third wave. This grouping will help the more competitive runners to sprint ahead without being inadvertently tripped up by a leash or blocked by slower-paced participants.

Our course race marshals will be monitoring people and pets for any medical emergencies.  If you need assistance, please notify the first PJRR volunteer you see.  If you notice another athlete in need of assistance, please notify the next volunteer you see on the course so they can provide aid. The Sharonville Fire Department will be present for any first aid or medical emergencies and CARE Center Vets will be present for any pet emergencies.

Course Terrain

The terrain is a mix of paved trails, packed dirt/gravel and uneven pavement in some areas. Consider the 5k course more of a trail run.  Directional and cautionary signs will be posted along both courses. Please pay attention to the signs and to our race marshals. Careful of falling walnuts along the way too!

Strollers and Headphones

Strollers will not be permitted on the 5k course, but are permitted for participants in the 2k walk only. Due to the varied terrain, crowds and dog participants we do not recommend strollers.

Headphones are permitted, however; we ask that you keep the volume low enough that  you can hear others behind you when announcing they are passing. Better yet, just enjoy the sounds of the crowds cheering you on!

Water Stops

There will be a water stop for the 5k participants at (approximately) the 1-mile and 2-mile markers for both people and dogs. There will be multiple hydration stations (doggy pails) along the 5k and 2k courses for the thirsty dogs. There are water fountains near the restrooms and Sharon Centre for our 2k participants.

There are multiple restrooms along both the 5k and 2k course.  We will have dog valets to mind your pet at the 3 main locations for our runners and walkers that may need to use the facilities.

Practice Proper PETtiquette

To make this event as pleasant as possible for all involved we ask that all participants with dogs follow a few simple rules:

  1. Please keep dogs on a 6 foot or shorter lead and have them walk or run close to you. NO RETRACTABLE LEADS are permitted. Hamilton County Park rules also require 6 foot or shorter leads. As people maneuver through the pack during the race, we do not want them to be tripped up with extended leads.
  2. Please be certain your dog is comfortable running at your pace before deciding to bring him or her. We want this to be a pleasant experience for everyone, the four-legged participants as well. If your dog is not comfortable running or stops and starts quite a bit, please consider walking with him that day for the safety of the others as well as for the comfort of your pooch.
  3. Please pick up after all your dog’s messes, including along the route—also a park rule. It is not pleasant for a runner or walker to step in an unexpected surprise! PAWlunteers will have Mutt Mitts available and will be provided at the starting line.
  4. We are encouraging children and families to attend and participate. Pet parents…please be certain to watch your dog’s reaction around crowds and especially children. Human parents…please also keep an eye on your child’s interactions with the dogs as some dogs are more reactive than others. We want this to be a fun and safe event for all involved!
  5. RUNNERS…always announce you are passing so as not to startle people or dogs. Announce “on your left” or “on your right”.

Recovery Area

There will be an athlete recovery area just past the finish line. Human and dog treats and water will be provided.

Event & Activities

The awards ceremony will take place at 10:45am at the Cardinal Crest Shelter.

Many of our participating beneficiaries will be present at the event as walkers and runners, some with adoptable pets.  Please take time to meet them, see their adoptable pets…maybe even find your FURever friend!

We have some fantastic sponsors  and vendors  joining us! They will have valuable information to share about their businesses and many will have goods and food available for purchase. Please visit them at the Cardinal Crest shelter and meadow area before and after the race.

There will be a lot to enjoy this Sunday so plan to spend your morning taking in the beautiful fall weather and colors, bonding with your BFF and getting some exercise to boot!

Please remember to thank our sponsors and our wonderful PAWlunteers too…they are key in making this event happen!

Runners, Walkers & Couch Potatoes

If you would like to participate in the 5K Run/Walk or 2K Walk, a portion of your entry fee will be donated to the beneficiary of your choice. You can also participate with your pet!

If you are unable to attend the event, you can register as a Virtual Runner/Couch Potato and your entry fee will also be donated to the beneficiary of your choice.

Vendor & Sponsor Opportunities

The Paw Joggers Rescue Run is a non-profit event created to benefit our local animal welfare charities. A portion of registration fees will be donated to these hardworking groups, so we need several generous sponsors to make the event a huge success.

We also have vendor opportunities available for you to show off your products and promote your services. Spaces will fill up quickly, so be sure to register soon!
